Kandi patterns

A pattern is a grid that tells you which color bead goes where, and in what order to string them. Without one, beading a picture into a cuff means working out every row on paper first.

Kinds of pattern

• Singles — one row. Color sequences, names, stripes.
• Word bracelets — letters spaced and centered so the phrase reads cleanly all the way round.
• Multi-stitch cuffs — wide bands with a picture across them, built on an even base row.
• X base cuffs — the more open, lattice-looking band.
• 3D pieces — charms, stars and shapes that stand off the cuff.
• Emoji and photo patterns — anything on your camera roll, matched to real bead colors.

How to read one

Every cell is one bead. You work a row at a time, and the pattern numbers the order so you are never guessing which end to start from. A good pattern also tells you how many of each color you need before you start, which is the difference between finishing a cuff and stopping halfway through because you ran out of pink.

Where the patterns are

KandiCon's library ships with starter patterns, and more than 600 makers have joined since the app launched in July and keep publishing their own. Patterns get picked up, remade in somebody else's colors, and posted straight back to the feed.
